Life-long learning

Life-long learning

Immersion Live is this weekend! The artists, speakers and fellow attendees have been amazing. Listening to the different paths professional creatives have taken to get where they are is so encouraging. Bonnie Christine, our hostess, always says, "collaboration over competition - there is room for you."

Bonnie encourages a cycle of learn, do, teach. When you teach, you reinforce what you've learned and understand it on a deeper level. I feel like such a beginner in the world of Surface Pattern design, what could I teach? But I do have 30 years experience in a professional environment and there are many skills that are translatable for creative entrepreneurs. I often use what I've learned in my creative endeavors to coach my day-job team and help them embrace a growth mindset and think more strategically.

Coming out of the conference, I need to find those areas where my current experience complements my future aspirations ... and lean in. Sounds easy! 🤣 One of my direct reports recently gave me a great compliment saying I should be a career coach. Sounds like fun. I do love to see the light come on when people have insight into something they had previously struggled with.

I'm actually quite excited. Sometimes when I come to learn something new for my business, I'm overwhelmingly embarrassed to learn how badly I'd been doing it up til then. This conference has given me a more mature perspective about the way a creative professional can evolve.

Perspective is everything. We must give ourselves grace for today and continue learning. It is a life-long process.
