Why do I make art? Let's chat over a cup of tea.

How do you take your tea? When I was sick as a kid, my Mom would make me a cup of hot tea with milk and honey. I believe it was mostly milk and honey. It always made me feel better.
I've been sick for a couple weeks. Nothing major, just the cough of the season. This weekend, I bought some local honey at a craft show. I made some of the magical tea, a spoonful of honey and a touch of milk. I'm sipping it now as I write. So as we're chatting over tea, you ask might ask, "why do you make art?" Oh, let me tell you 😀
I've always loved school supplies. Since I got my first crayons, I've wanted to be an artist. I remember in 3rd grade, a boy I liked noticed my art. It really boosted my confidence for a time. While I always dabbled, I didn't have the opportunity to take classes until my senior year of high school.
Unfortunately, I didn't think I was good enough in a variety of ways. I chose a twisty turny path that eventually became a successful corporate career.
Despite success, I felt I had no tangible accomplishments. The awards I won for the companies I worked for sat on someone's desk or a case in the foyer, unappreciated and collecting dust.
I needed a tangible accomplishment - something I could hold and see and show others. On vacation, visiting my brother, I convinced my sister-in-law to do a paint night with me. The fire was reignited! This time, it wasn't hard to find lessons. Cinnamon Cooney was in her 1st year on YouTube and she had all the lessons available for free.
Learn, teach, learn, teach. When you teach something, it's helps reinforce the concepts and helps you to have better insights into whatever it is. That's because good students ask good questions that make you think. And, for me it makes me want to learn more so that I can expand my skillset as well as what I am qualified to teach.
At the day job, I do get a lot of satisfaction from coaching. I believe in excellence and I expect a lot from my teams. 90% of abilities depend on our ability to believe that we are capable. But it's still not tangible. I'm not going to point to someone else's success and claim it as my own. While I can coach all the things, each individual has their own hangups or baggage that they must overcome to be successful and their accomplishments are 100% their own.
So, I make art. I make the art I want to see in the world. I put it on practical products because the efficiency side of me needs it to be useful. But I've realized recently that I have the opportunity to make art that is useful, in and of itself, because in the art, I've placed my heart and shared it with the world.
But now, I have to work. I'm not a kid just out of high school, who doesn't have responsibilities. And, I have a lot to learn. Everytime I think, I've got this now, I learn something new.
If I worked for me, I'd coach me to never think I've got it all figured out. Keep learning and failing and picking yourself up having learned. And teach your peer so they don't have to learn like you did. Yikes. Would I like me as a boss? 😂
So I paint. I paint with acrylics and fluid mediums, watercolors and ink. I paint with Procreate and Illustrator. I'm finding my way.
So I learn. I learn more about the paint and the way it interacts with water and the page. I learn how to run a business.
Sometimes it works out, sometimes I fail. Always getting back up and ready to try again. Coaching myself, get in there! I give myself no mercy. 😂
Sipping the tea, I look in the cup, I need another and I've talked too much. It's been good chatting with you. I hope you'll come back soon. Maybe I'll have learned something I can teach you. Maybe you appreciate my heart or my art.

I love your Heart ❤️ and your Art!! You’re a fabulous story teller and I’m sure you’re an excellent teacher and coach as well!!
When I was sick, my mama made me buttered toast with asparagus and a warm cream sauce on top. Funny, I never think about that much anymore. I need to make some but not gonna wait till I’m sick though! 😂 I’ll have to try your tea ☕️ with milk 🥛 and honey 🍯
I love the art that I do, because it tells a personal story to me from God that encourages me and is exciting knowing God is talking to me through my dreams snd visions and His messages are revealed as I draw it or paint it. He will speak to you in the same way, as you draw or paint your dreams, visions or supernatural experiences. Habakkuk 2 says to watch to see what God will tell you. Then, write the vision so all can see it and run to it. Though the vision tarry. don’t be discouraged, it will surely come! Daniel 2:22 tells how God revealed the deep and secret things that the Pharoah had dreamed and the people were saved and Daniel was made 2nd in command, because he knew how to connect with God by faith. I have often said, I wish the Prophets and Disciples like Daniel and Paul had drawn or painted all of the dreams and visions they had seen!!! Their art was in how well they told their testimonies so that even today, we can imagine what they saw!
God bless you!
Merry Christmas & Happy New Year 2024
