Red at the Forest's Edge - Limited Edition Print

The Story Behind the Painting

It was a quiet, snowy day working from home when a vivid flash of red caught my eye through the window. Out on the edge of the yard, moving through the soft gray trees, was a magnificent Pileated Woodpecker hopping methodically from trunk to trunk through the falling snow.

I paused and watched, holding my breath until he rested for just a brief moment against the bark. I managed to snap a quick reference photo right before he flew off, and that fleeting encounter became the spark for this painting.

This piece holds a very special place in my studio as one of my very first watercolors. You’ll even notice it’s signed with my full name, Lisa Maria, from that early chapter of my artistic journey. It captures that magical New England feeling of catching a rare, vibrant slice of wildlife right in your own backyard on a winter afternoon.
